IKAT Check Scarf

A great unisex option, this grayish-blue and white handwoven scarf is made of Khadi cotton. Khadi means that the yarn is hand-spun before woven into the scarf. The check pattern is created with real ikat. Ikat, sometimes also known as space-dye in its original form is a traditional weaving technique. In real ikat, the yarn is dyed before the fabric is handwoven.

This scarf was made with love and respect - for those who wear it - as well as for those who wove it. Wrap yourself in a luxurious, one-of-a-kind scarf made with love and great detail on the handloom. With every scarf sold, a weaver in rural India is able to support her family.

Indigo Handloom

Indigo Handloom has been designing handwoven scarves and fabrics in Oakland, Ca since 2003. Their work helps to revive the traditional textile arts of khadi (hand-spun yarn) and handloom weaving while supporting community development in rural India. Indigo Handloom is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of the world of textiles. Everything they offer is made on an ancient handloom and therefore requires no energy source. They use a variety of natural and low-impact dyes. Through their work, Indigo Handloom has been able to support hundreds of weavers and their families.

  • Organic Cotton: Indigo Handloom uses organic cotton that is hand-picked, non-GMO and certified GOTS (Global Organic Textiles Standard). Ginned in a slow contamination-free process, the fine, high staple of the cotton makes for a soft and luxurious cloth. As the art of handloom thrives so does the diversity of other region-specific raw materials in India such as linen and silk.
  • Weavers: The majority of weavers in India currently live in poverty, while others leave the occupation to work in construction or as rickshaw pullers. Indigo Handloom has worked with over 500 weavers in rural India to preserve the handloom art form and enable weavers to efficiently provide for their families. Handloom requires no electricity or emissions, simply the creative energy of talented weavers.
  • Fair Work: Indigo Handloom works closely with their factories and make onsite visits regularly ensuring fair working conditions, fair wages, and zero tolerance for child labor.
